Guildford Games Club

Mondays 19:30-23:00 at The Park Barn Centre in Guildford, Surrey, UK

2019 Guildford Games Club Hobby Challenge: January!

Our first month is done and people have been busy! Chasing away the winter cold with the furnace of their hobby crucibles! Or something suitably dramatic.

First up Paul Townsend shows us both his painting skills and his mastery of little metal conversion with some gorgeous halflings! (tip: click the images to zoom!)

Jimmy shows us the meaning of grit and endurance as he worked his way through 39 Skaven to add to his ever growing horde (tip: click the images to zoom!)

While simultaneously fighting Zulu and helping charity James Dix lays down the hulls of a tank company (where he keeps the extra hands I am not sure!)

(tip: click the images to zoom!)

Wes has a pair of Ghulam (plural: Ghilman) complete!

I painted my way through the last bit of my Warmaster Wood Elves that I need for a tournament. I also got lured into the world of Lord of the Rings and have some elves done and to support the Infinity Campaign I have some civilians done. (tip: click the images to zoom!)

Adam Stallwood rolls in with his fantastically painted, monstrous genestealer cultists, showing us all the meaning of object source lighting! (tip: click the images to zoom!)

The Pledges

Name Pledge Progress Comments
Tom James Lavers Bevell 1. Finish painting my Dark angels (there currently are at least 200 unpainted models, 80 of which are tactical marines)
2. Actually win a game with them!
Sam Parish I have four cases of unfinished models. Some need some hobby work done, others just need painting. What I’d like to do, is have the club pick one of my boxes at random on a poll on the Games club page, and that’s the first box I work on.
James Dix To complete my:
Imperial Guard army (4000pts ish left to do)
Prussian army
Necromunda House Gangs
Just some basecoating
Alex Ede Fully complete my heresy blood angels and sanguinius (if when he drops) roughly 1500pts left to go and place well with them in the heresy eventsAnd make a proper start and finish my ironjawz to 2500pts and then take them to an event at WHw
Paul Townsend I aim to complete the equivalent of two elements (character, “troop” sized unit or war machine) for kings of war each month. Included in this at least 3 giants, complete my Frostgrave warband, napoleonic french, and get the Halfmen to a good playable size army. Game on! My Halflings are starting the year well. This month I’ve finished a regiment of sword & buckler braves, and also completed my battle shrine. Very happy with this start to the year
David Last 1. Fully paint and base 200 models2. Finish the small projects: Blood Bowl Team, Superhero Team
3. Attend 3 tournaments4. (Attempt to) run a Campaign at the club
Warmaster: 6 stands of wild riders, 3 stands warhawk riders, 9 stands of glade riders, 4 stands of waywatchers. 14 LotR elves, 11 Spectre Civilians for the Infinity Campaign: 50/200

Played in Eddie’s FoWv4. event (which I count as a tournament!): 1/3

I will count 28-32mm figures as one model, 5x6mm figures as one model, 3x10mm as one model, larger monstrous/warmachine/etc. figures may count as more than one model
Ross Packman I’d like to get a Necromunda board finished, including multi-level terrain.
Mark Collins I hope to rewrite and finish a third novel, World Without Bounds, for Easter and then write a fourth entirely new novel from scratch in the same series by Christmas.
James Jimmy Pownall I want to be able to filed 3k pts of skaven in 6th Ed fantasy fully painted. For the hobby challenge this month I’ve painted 30 clanrats, 8 of 20 night runners, an assassin and a grey seer.
Wes Saunders I want to work on my painting techniques and at least enter some kind of painting competition This week I’ve been painting up the Haqqislam starter set for Infinity – I’ve been looking for a new game system and after a great intro from Josh and Freddie I want to have a crack at the upcoming campaign! In terms of painting, I wanted to push myself this year and have decided to do these as my standard paint job – something to work up from. I tend to do a couple of simple base colours, a good helping of my trusty Army Painter strong tone, neaten, little highlight and then call it a day.
Adam Stallwood I’d like to pledge a genestealer cult army for 40k. 2000pts (ish) worth
Eddie Turner Take on GWs Lord of the Rings Hobby Bingo

Happy hobbying!

Persephone-4 Station Narrative Campaign

A leak from a secret 0-12 Document has been picked up by several different intelligence agencies. The Hexahedron, Hassassin Bahram and others. The details are explosive. The Persephone-4 Orbital Habitat has been infiltrated by Combined Army Impersonators, codenamed Shasvastii. For the enterprising power – Hyper or Super – this is both an unacceptable risk and a potential opportunity. Discredit rivals and show your own success in combating the Combined Army. Place your own operatives in positions of power. Practice new counter-espionage techniques or use new experimental tech. However, whoever gets sent is entering a spiders web hanging in a lion’s den – multiple competing factions, risk of civilian casualties and near undetectable alien infiltrators…

Each government in turn has come to the same conclusion. A large scale mission is not practical and instead a small elite team will be sent in. However to prevent the risk of an individual being captured and revealing the rest of their team only one operative will know all of the members and will need to slowly make contact with the rest of the team and build them into a functional fighting force.

Uncover enemy operatives. Eliminate them. Seize control of key locations and get operatives into key political positions. Don’t get found out. Simple right?

===

The Guildford Games Club is running a slow grow narrative Infinity campaign. Pitting our players in a series of games over several months, each adding more points to their Limited Insertion teams as they go but having to contend with civilians and local infrastructure as well as one another’s teams!

A number of non-human tourists are currently on holiday in the Persephone-4 Orbital Habitat. Friends have told them they should visit the 123m, spire like, transmission tower the station is renowned for across the human sphere as well as sampling some of the local food outlets. Any gel like substance they leave in their wake on door handles and so forth is entirely natural and can easily be washed off with water. 2018 Guildford Games Club Painting Challenge: November!

A quiet month for painting with the year end approaching fast. Only me with anything to report this time.

I managed to get the final part of my pledge finished with some different attempts at power weapon glow, with the green and red working best.

Other than that I worked on 10mm scale models for Warmaster Fantasy, getting some Wood Elf Eternal Guard completed as well as a large contingent of 6 units of Dryads, 2 Branchwraiths and four Treemen. I rather foolishly signed up for a tournament in February despite not having an army at the time…

Then just a few more Sigmarines.

2018 Guildford Games Club Painting Challenge: October!

New month, new updates!

Tim Smith has, despite some new distractions, managed to paint up some fantastic looking Tau

I painted some Orcs to bring my AoS forces to 1000pts, The Aethervoid Pendulum and the Prismatic Palisade AoS spells. Then crash painted an entire 1:6000 fleet for Victory at Sea. Top tip: Don’t try and hand paint the Australian flag on a 1:6000 model!

Some good progress from the club this month. Paul has some historical elephants pulling double duty as monstrous beasties…griffons are historical right? They’re in the tapestries and murals so they must be!

I continued working on my Stormcast

2018 Guildford Games Club Painting Challenge: June!

Half way through the year and there’s some development’s afoot!

As ever the mutable way of the world do not leave our pledges untouched. Ash March has crafted anew his pledge for the year and a new challenger approaches! A being known only as Biel Tan has a pledge all their own.

For this month Tim Smith has completed one portion of his pledge with some fantastic looking scenery

Paul’s Romans Auxilia grow faster than the empire itself and the forces of Napoleon lurk ominously in the background

I managed to get forces for two games completed – 6mm Israelis for Fate of a Nation and 28mm British Indians for Chain of Command. As well as finalising my colour scheme for a new Stormcast army for Age of Sigmar.
