2019 Guildford Games Club Hobby Challenge: January!

Our first month is done and people have been busy! Chasing away the winter cold with the furnace of their hobby crucibles! Or something suitably dramatic.

First up Paul Townsend shows us both his painting skills and his mastery of little metal conversion with some gorgeous halflings! (tip: click the images to zoom!)

Jimmy shows us the meaning of grit and endurance as he worked his way through 39 Skaven to add to his ever growing horde (tip: click the images to zoom!)

While simultaneously fighting Zulu and helping charity James Dix lays down the hulls of a tank company (where he keeps the extra hands I am not sure!)

I painted my way through the last bit of my Warmaster Wood Elves that I need for a tournament. I also got lured into the world of Lord of the Rings and have some elves done and to support the Infinity Campaign I have some civilians done. (tip: click the images to zoom!)

Sam Parish I have four cases of unfinished models. Some need some hobby work done, others just need painting. What I’d like to do, is have the club pick one of my boxes at random on a poll on the Games club page, and that’s the first box I work on.

Paul Townsend I aim to complete the equivalent of two elements (character, “troop” sized unit or war machine) for kings of war each month. Included in this at least 3 giants, complete my Frostgrave warband, napoleonic french, and get the Halfmen to a good playable size army. Game on! My Halflings are starting the year well. This month I’ve finished a regiment of sword & buckler braves, and also completed my battle shrine. Very happy with this start to the year
David Last 1. Fully paint and base 200 models2. Finish the small projects: Blood Bowl Team, Superhero Team

Ross Packman I’d like to get a Necromunda board finished, including multi-level terrain.
Mark Collins I hope to rewrite and finish a third novel, World Without Bounds, for Easter and then write a fourth entirely new novel from scratch in the same series by Christmas.
James Jimmy Pownall I want to be able to filed 3k pts of skaven in 6th Ed fantasy fully painted. For the hobby challenge this month I’ve painted 30 clanrats, 8 of 20 night runners, an assassin and a grey seer.
Wes Saunders I want to work on my painting techniques and at least enter some kind of painting competition This week I’ve been painting up the Haqqislam starter set for Infinity – I’ve been looking for a new game system and after a great intro from Josh and Freddie I want to have a crack at the upcoming campaign! In terms of painting, I wanted to push myself this year and have decided to do these as my standard paint job – something to work up from. I tend to do a couple of simple base colours, a good helping of my trusty Army Painter strong tone, neaten, little highlight and then call it a day.
