2019 Guildford Games Club Hobby Challenge: March!

Lots of busy people hobbying this month! Let’s see what they’ve been up to…

First up Paul has used his willpower to resist the calling of halflings to instead bring us Rohirrim for LotR, some of the characterful Anyaral World of Twilight models and a converted Ogre

Adam Stallwood’s Genestealer Cult grows apace as he shows us both his skills with a brush and his discipline to tackle such a challenge!

I have rather less focus and painted an assortment of bits and pieces. Completing two projects though. AoS Orcs (only took a year…) and AoS Endless Spells. As well as adding another few models to my Invincible Army for Infinity and starting some FoW Frenchmen.

The Pledges

NamePledgeProgressComments
Tom James Lavers Bevell 1. Finish painting my Dark angels (there currently are at least 200 unpainted models, 80 of which are tactical marines)
2. Actually win a game with them!
Sam ParishI have four cases of unfinished models. Some need some hobby work done, others just need painting. What I’d like to do, is have the club pick one of my boxes at random on a poll on the Games club page, and that’s the first box I work on.
James DixTo complete my:
Imperial Guard army (4000pts ish left to do)
Prussian army
Necromunda House Gangs
Alex EdeFully complete my heresy blood angels and sanguinius (if when he drops) roughly 1500pts left to go and place well with them in the heresy eventsAnd make a proper start and finish my ironjawz to 2500pts and then take them to an event at WHw
Paul TownsendI aim to complete the equivalent of two elements (character, “troop” sized unit or war machine) for kings of war each month. Included in this at least 3 giants, complete my Frostgrave warband, napoleonic french, and get the Halfmen to a good playable size army. Game on!Rohan, Anyaral Noble knights, noble, and pack beast, and another beautiful Ogre I’m probably ruining with knife and putty! (And tin can…..)
David Last1. Fully paint and base 200 models 2. Finish the small projects: Blood Bowl Team, Superhero Team
3. Attend 3 tournaments4. (Attempt to) run a Campaign at the club
1 Zuyong and 1 Daoying for Infinity, 6 orcs to finish my AoS army, the AoS Endless Spells, 6 AMD173 and a WW2 French infantry stand for FoW . Campaign: 96/200. Second round of Infinity Campaign completedI will count 28-32mm figures as one model, 5x6mm figures as one model, 3x10mm as one model, larger monstrous/warmachine/etc. figures may count as more than one model
Ross PackmanI’d like to get a Necromunda board finished, including multi-level terrain.
Mark CollinsI hope to rewrite and finish a third novel, World Without Bounds, for Easter and then write a fourth entirely new novel from scratch in the same series by Christmas.
James Jimmy Pownall I want to be able to filed 3k pts of skaven in 6th Ed fantasy fully painted.
Wes SaundersI want to work on my painting techniques and at least enter some kind of painting competition
In terms of painting, I wanted to push myself this year and have decided to do these as my standard paint job – something to work up from. I tend to do a couple of simple base colours, a good helping of my trusty Army Painter strong tone, neaten, little highlight and then call it a day.
Adam StallwoodI’d like to pledge a genestealer cult army for 40k. 2000pts (ish) worthAnother group of neophytes, squad leaders and special weapons and a couple of shots of the full squads, 2 x 10 neophytes and 15 acolytes.

Also did 6 deathwatch terminators, to try out with the new bolter rules.

The GSC really are starting to come together as an army. Only 7 weeks to go and 55 models

2019 Guildford Games Club Hobby Challenge: February!

And February checking in, plenty of hobbying completed this month.

Mark Collins has his pen out, pages flyin’ books on their way!

Adam Stallwood has built a huge supply of models and, despite that, also managed to paint some stunning models AND build a display board! If only I could be as industrious as Comrade Stallwood!

Paul’s halflings surge ahead, completely blowing past his monthly objective to complete 6 new elements of the army! Plus they look incredible!

I got a few Inifnity models done for the campaign and finished my current LotR elf collection.

James has been active in hobbyland too, basecoating, building, painting and even doing some Necromunda rules writing. Look at that vibrant green on the Van Saar!

Wes has powered on with his Haqqislam forces, getting them all beautiful and battle ready.

2019 Guildford Games Club Hobby Challenge: January!

Our first month is done and people have been busy! Chasing away the winter cold with the furnace of their hobby crucibles! Or something suitably dramatic.

First up Paul Townsend shows us both his painting skills and his mastery of little metal conversion with some gorgeous halflings! (tip: click the images to zoom!)

Jimmy shows us the meaning of grit and endurance as he worked his way through 39 Skaven to add to his ever growing horde (tip: click the images to zoom!)

While simultaneously fighting Zulu and helping charity James Dix lays down the hulls of a tank company (where he keeps the extra hands I am not sure!)

(tip: click the images to zoom!)

Wes has a pair of Ghulam (plural: Ghilman) complete!

I painted my way through the last bit of my Warmaster Wood Elves that I need for a tournament. I also got lured into the world of Lord of the Rings and have some elves done and to support the Infinity Campaign I have some civilians done. (tip: click the images to zoom!)

Adam Stallwood rolls in with his fantastically painted, monstrous genestealer cultists, showing us all the meaning of object source lighting! (tip: click the images to zoom!)

2018 Guildford Games Club Painting Challenge: November!

A quiet month for painting with the year end approaching fast. Only me with anything to report this time.

I managed to get the final part of my pledge finished with some different attempts at power weapon glow, with the green and red working best.

Other than that I worked on 10mm scale models for Warmaster Fantasy, getting some Wood Elf Eternal Guard completed as well as a large contingent of 6 units of Dryads, 2 Branchwraiths and four Treemen. I rather foolishly signed up for a tournament in February despite not having an army at the time…

Then just a few more Sigmarines.
